Join a classical choir in Birmingham – Quinborne Choir is a friendly, auditioned choir welcoming new singers.
Based in Harborne, we perform a wide range of classical choral music to a high standard, with supportive weekly rehearsals led by an experienced musical director.
We welcome confident singers and those returning to choral singing, with a short and informal audition process.
Tenors and basses are especially encouraged to get in touch.
Quinborne Choir is an auditioned amateur choir based in Harborne, bringing together singers from across Birmingham and the surrounding areas, including Quinton, Bearwood, Edgbaston and Halesowen.
Our members share a love of classical choral music and enjoy rehearsing regularly, developing their singing, and performing concerts together throughout the year.

There is a free car park on site, and the venue is easily accessible by public transport, on the 24 bus route and near the 11 bus route.
The choir takes a short summer break during part of July and August.
Not necessarily. Although it is helpful to be able to read music, it is not essential when you first join. Many members develop this skill over time.
We also provide helpful audio resources to support learning between rehearsals, and our conductor works on vocal technique during rehearsals.
You are very welcome to attend a few rehearsals before making any commitment. This is the best way to meet the choir and see if it is the right fit for you.
Audition process
As an auditioned choir, we hold a short, informal and supportive audition with our Musical Director after you have attended a few rehearsals.

Quinborne Choir is a classical choir based in Birmingham, performing a wide range of choral repertoire throughout the year.
Membership is currently either:
• £15 per month
• £180 per year
Reduced rates are available for under 18s and those in full-time education. We will also consider requests for reduced fees in cases of financial difficulty.
Nicola Starkie is Quinborne Choir’s Musical Director. A versatile musician with over 30 years' experience as a choral conductor. Her leadership combines high musical standards with warmth, energy and a real passion for choral music.
An inspiring and engaging musical director, Nicola enjoys working with professional and amateur singers of all ages and levels of experience and is known for her encouraging approach, attention to detail and imaginative programming.
Alongside her work with Quinborne Choir, Nicola is Musical Director of Ludlow Choral Society and Quinton Community Choir, which she founded in 2006. She directed the 100-strong boys’ choir at King Edward’s School, Birmingham for 10 years and now teaches Music at Edgbaston High School for Girls.
Nicola also sings with the acclaimed choir Ex Cathedra and enjoys composing and arranging. She remains active as an accompanist and is part of the music team at her local parish church.
Nicola studied Music at Downing College, Cambridge, where she was Organ Scholar and directed the Chapel Choir, before training as a secondary music teacher at Birmingham City University.
Following a career break to raise a young family, Nicola completed a Master’s degree in Choral Conducting at Birmingham Conservatoire, where she received the MMus Course Prize and the Michael Beech Conducting Award. Her principal studies were with Paul Spicer, and she also received vocal coaching from Maureen Brathwaite. During this time, Nicola founded Polaris, an upper voices ensemble specialising in Baltic and Eastern European repertoire.
Outside of music, Nicola is busy with family life and loves walking and cycling in the countryside.

Our singers come from across Birmingham and the surrounding areas, including Harborne, Edgbaston, Bearwood, Quinton, Selly Oak, Bournville, Kings Heath, Moseley and Stirchley, as well as further afield from Halesowen, Smethwick, Oldbury, Stourbridge, Sutton Coldfield, Droitwich and from across the wider West Midlands and Worcestershire area.
